Driven by results, I am a brand and marketing professional with extensive experience, unique skills and innate consumer insightfulness that spans 20 years, crosses international borders and covers a wide range of industry sectors and budget parameters.  The following summarizes my career highlights:

 

  • Agency side

    • m5 Marketing Communications, St. John’s: two roles during my tenure – Senior VP Business Development/Marketing and Senior VP Client Services for Atlantic Canada’s largest agency.

    • Pilot Communications, St. John’s:  Chief Marketing Officer.

 

  • International branding and marketing communications

    • Retailcorp (formerly Nakheel Retail), Dubai:  Director of Marketing overseeing the retail real estate and retail brands division of Dubai World. 

    • Humber Valley Resort, Newfoundland Labrador:  Director of Sales and Marketing, overseeing the brand positioning and marketing strategies for national and UK based consumer, MCIT and travel trade targets.

 

  • National branding, marketing, investor relations

    • RioCan REIT, Toronto: Director of Marketing at Canada’s largest REIT - establishing and leading the marketing function at RioCan, overseeing shopping mall marketing across the national retail real estate portfolio; leasing marketing strategies and investor relations’ initiatives for this publicly traded corporation.

    • Memorial University of Newfoundland, St. John's:  Associate Director Marketing - strategic positioning and marketing for Atlantic Canada's largest university.

 

 

 

Sandy Mercer is a business professional with a diverse background in leading brand plans and growth  strategies for a multitude of industry sectors. She is accomplished in developing and managing cross-functional teams throughout Canada and internationally, to deliver integrated solutions that advance brands and achieve results.


Where most people end, is where Sandy usually begins.  To find the strategic path for optimal results, she  starts with the end goal and puts the planning pieces together from there.  Having led multi-million dollar projects, Sandy gets the importance of return on investment.  Her experience includes both agency and client side corporations, spans 20 years and covers national and international markets. 

 

An experienced leader, Sandy’s tenacious focus on the end result is uniquely interwoven into all projects and teams she manages.  In it to win it, she thrives on building rock solid strategies founded on clarity and passion from all involved. A gifted communicator and motivator, she is drawn to people who like to work hard and share her goal oriented determination and winning attitude.

 

Sandy has worked extensively in business development, including projects of international significance. She has held senior positions with shopping mall developers and retailers Nakheel Retail and Majid Al Futtaim in Dubai, and Canada’s RioCan Real Estate Trust and Ivanhoe Cambridge where she oversaw business development strategies for retailer leasing, investment relations, consumer marketing and sponsorship revenue.  Within the resort real estate industry, she was Director of Sales and Marketing for internationally acclaimed Humber Valley Resort in Canada where she was responsible for driving both the group and independent travel business.  A mainstay of her career has been on the agency side of the advertising/marketing industry, where she has developed integrated brand strategies for a broad portfolio of clients from both the private and public sectors with Atlantic Canada’s largest agency - m5.


Marketing achievements include ICSC (International Council of Shopping Centres) Awards, Tourism Awards from Homes Overseas and Bentley International and regional ICE Awards.  Sandy is a past member of the MECSC and ICSC and has been a board member for Canada’s annual convention committee. She received her Certified Marketing Director designation from the ICSC with special distinction in 1997. Her Bachelor of Commerce degree is from Memorial University of Newfoundland.
